A long-awaited Purple Heart

In 1966, a young 20-year old from Elkader, Iowa received his draft notice.  Robert “Bob” Leonard immediately answered his country’s call.  He first was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, MO, for Basic Training, and then was transferred to Fort Polk, LA, for more specialized training.  Then the Army sent the young man thousands of miles away to Vietnam, where he spent the next year.
