As the Parker youth fishing derby enters its fifth year, many are already looking forward to the fun Saturday afternoon that is in-store. Last year’s event drew a record crowd of over 40 partcipants in three age categories and this year there is expected to be an even larger turnout.

Kids of all ages are invited to wet their line and try their luck on Saturday, June 8 when Jim’s Farm and Sporting Supply in Parker hosts the annual event. The derby will run from 1-3 p.m. and all partcipants are asked to meet at Jim’s Sporting Supply at 12:30 to sign in and take part in the short rule’s meeting.

Youngsters will be divided into three age goups: three to seven, eight to 12, and13-18. Adults must accompany young children. Partcipants may fish anywhere along the Vermillion River and prizes will be awarded for the biggest catfish, bullhead, carp, and walleye in each age category as well as overall pounds of fish caught. State rules and regulations will apply.

After weigh-in, which will take place at Jim’s Sporting Supply, there will be a free meal for all derby partcipants.

Come out and try your luck for what is sure to be a fun afternoon of fishing.
