Twenty-one youths and 12 adults registered for the annual Ice Fishing Derby sponsored by the Lyon County Conservation Office at Lake Pahoja Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants fished from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Those catching the largest fish or most fish in the youth and adult categories had the first choice of a wide variety of prizes donated by area businesses. After that, Lyon County Conservatinist, Emily Ostrander, drew names until each participant had their choice of remaining prizes. At right, derby winners were, left to right, Savannah Smith, who caught 11 fish; Carson Grevengoed, who caught an 8-1/2” bluegill and Brad Grevengoed, who also caught an 8-1/2” bluegill. Below left, after drilling holes in the ice, fishermen sat patiently waiting on the frozen lake for a tug on their lines. Below right, Conservationist, Emily Ostrander, had lots of help measuring this prize-winning bluegill. For more photos turn to page 3.
