“Tornado Tuesday”

Decade old memories recalled

It was almost 10 years ago that tornados tore through much of Turner County, uprooting trees, destroying homes, barns and even a large part of the Turner County Fairgrounds.

As people began to sift through the damage when light first broke the next morning, it became all to clear that the storms that passed through on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 would forever change the landscape of Parker and much of the county.

By Wednesday, officials were deeming “Tornado Tuesday” one for the record books. Sixty-seven tornadoes had been reported during Tuesday’s storm.

    Golf cart ordinance passes

    The Parker City Council met in regular session on Monday, June 10.

    One of the first orders of business was the second reading of the golf course ordinance.

    Council members discussed having a golf course ordinance in town that would allow drivers to drive their golf court legally.

    “The ordinance is pretty basic,” said Mayor Ron Nelson to the council members.
